Charging Technologies & Charger Types

Conductive: plug-in

  • This is the most common charging method, where a cable with a connector is plugged into the bus's charging port.
  • Plug-in charging technology is well-established, reliable, and cost-effective.
  • Standards like CCS make plug-in chargers widely compatible with different bus models.
  • They can be used for both depot charging and opportunity charging.

Conductive: pantograph / overhead

  • This method uses a pantograph to connect to overhead charging wires.
  • Pantograph charging enables high-power charging and is suited for BRT and opportunity charging.

Inductive (wireless)

  • This method uses electromagnetic fields to transfer energy wirelessly between a charging pad on the ground and a receiver on the bus.
