As a national innovation consortium, CUTRIC facilitates knowledge sharing, develops evidence-based research, and builds collaborative solutions to remove obstacles to decarbonizing public transportation in Canada.
In collaboration with Centennial College and Natural Resources Canada, CUTRIC has undertaken extensive stakeholder engagement, research, and consolidation of educational and informational resources to build TransitXcell: An A to ZEB Resource Platform.
TransitXcell is Canada’s sole trusted source of information on zero-emission public transit. The platform aims to hasten the adoption and development of decarbonizing transit fleets by providing educational materials and resources to industry professionals and supporters in one location.
The challenge: Navigating a fractured policy landscape
Transit agencies must interpret and align with multiple layers of policy simultaneously. Global decarbonization commitments set long-term direction. Federal and provincial governments translate those commitments into regulations, incentives, and funding programs. Municipalities define local targets and build programs to support them.
Today, this information lives across various government websites, policy documents, press releases, and funding portals. Transit agencies are left to piece together how international agreements translate into Canadian policy and how those policies connect to real projects in their cities that need funds now.
The result is inefficiency and risk. Valuable opportunities can be missed simply because programs are hard to find, difficult to compare, or poorly understood in context.
