City of Medicine Hat’s transit authority Medicine Hat Transit, founded in 1956, operates 12 fixed routes. This service provides comprehensive public transportation services within the City of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. The agency operates a fleet of 19 buses servicing a system of over 230 stops. This transit agency also provides on-demand services allowing for flexible and convenient travel options. In 2023, the Medicine Hat City Council adopted an Environmental Framework to clarify and commit to environmental objectives, making the electrification of the transit fleet an important step toward sustainability and meeting Alberta’s net zero emissions by 2050 target.

Paving the way for zero emissions transit in City of Medicine Hat
The Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC) has partnered with the City of Medicine Hat to deliver a comprehensive zero emissions bus (ZEB) Feasibility Plan. This study provides a roadmap for decarbonizing regional transit, aligning with the City’s Environmental Framework. and federal sustainability goals.
Summary of findings
The study analyzed three scenarios against a fossil fuel "Base Case" to determine the most effective path forward for the City's transit fleet by 2045.
