Dear CUTRIC Members and Canadian Electric Bus Stakeholders,
Building on the robust championship of Brampton Transit, York Region Transit and TransLink in Vancouver as part of Phase I of the Pan-Canadian Electric Bus Demonstration & Integration Trial, CUTRIC is initiating the Phase II planning process.
Phase I has resulted in 18 electric buses with 7 standardized overhead charging systems (and allied depot charging systems) across Canada -- all of which achieve standardized opportunity charging for on-route optimized charging. This is a world first.
Phase II is focused on achieving 60 electric buses with approximately 10 additional standardized overhead charging systems, as well as standardized depot charging systems. The project will also integrate energy storage at the site of chargers and in depots to overcome challenges associated with demand charges for high-powered superfast charging.
Stakeholders interested in the electrification of bus technologies in Canada are welcome to attend Technical Planning Session #1 on November 17th hosted by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) in Toronto.
