Based on consultations with industry and transit stakeholders over the past 12 months, CUTRIC has concluded there is a strong desire for on-road trials and demonstrations of electric bus technologies in Ontario which seek to integrate advanced smart grid controls with transportation systems, and which seek to optimize and maximize renewable energy usage while minimizing technology risk and maintenance costs for transit systems over the long-term.
The Pan-Ontario Electric Bus Demonstration & Trial Planning Session (Session 1) will bring together interested transit systems in Ontario with relevant local distribution companies (LDCs) where electric buses might be deployed in the future.
This meeting constitutes the first step towards the development and funding of a full-scale electric bus demonstration trial in Ontario starting in late-2016 or early-2017.
It is the first in a series of planning sessions that will unfold in collaboration with bus manufacturers, system integrators, and government stakeholders over the next six months.
