Sue Connor, Chair, Burlington Transit
After attending York University, Sue Connor began her career in 1976 working for Canada Post, moving quickly through the ranks of the government agency over the next 12 years in a series of managerial posts. In 1988, she made the move to the transit industry working for Mississauga Transit in a number of positions in their Operations department finally leading that department. Sue was the General Manager, Transit for the City of Brampton the 9th largest city in Canada, a position she held from 2003 to 2017. In this role, she was in charge of a team of 1000+ employees and managed a multi-million dollar budget in one of the fastest growing municipalities in Canada. Currently, Sue is the Director of Transit for the City of Burlington. Sue is currently, the Chair of the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA).
Walter Kinio, Vice-Chair, Thales Group
Walter is responsible for all Research and Technology activities for Thales Transportation Systems in Toronto, Canada, and works closely together with the Thales Product Strategy and Business Lines to create new and innovative solutions, in support of the Thales Urban Product Strategy.
Walter has worked on Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) Systems since 1983. He has progressed through a series of engineering roles, starting as a Software Analyst, working on the 1st generation SelTrac product. He spent eight years working for Thales in Germany on Urban and Mainline projects. After returning to Canada, he held senior development roles, including the role of Principle Design Authority before moving into Engineering Management.
Walter has since held roles as the Director of Software, V&V and was the Engineering Director for the first five years of the Jubilee and Northern Line Upgrade project in London. Since 2009 he has been involved with the Research and Development.
Walter has been involved with many of the Thales Signalling projects deployed in North America, Europe and Asia. Those projects include both Green field and Brown field deployments and cover both attended and unattended operations. He has been involved with every generation upgrade of the Thales SelTrac product family and is recognized in Thales as a CBTC expert.
Eric Gillespie, Treasurer, Waterloo Transit
Eric is Director of Transit Services in Waterloo Region and has been leading a transformational change of this rapidly growing transit service, known locally as Grand River Transit (GRT).
He was Chair of the Canadian Urban Transit Association from 2001 until 2004 and is currently n the board of directors as Vice Chair Finance.
Eric is a business graduate from of the University of Calgary and a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Malini Giridhar, Executive Committee Member, Enbridge Gas
Malini Giridhar was appointed to the position of Vice President Business Development at Enbridge in November 2015. She is responsible for new business initiatives that will extend and complement growth in its core gas distribution business. In her previous position as Vice President, Gas Supply and Business Development, she led gas supply procurement and dispatch activities, strategic planning and received regulatory approval to build a major natural gas pipeline in the Greater Toronto Area. She joined Enbridge in 1994 as a financial analyst and held progressively more senior positions in the Regulatory and Gas Supply groups. Malini is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a graduate degree in Economics. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two children.
Aaron Lamb, Executive Committee Member, BC Transit
As the Executive Director of Asset Management, Aaron is responsible for the management of BC Transit's provincial fleet and fixed assets (including environment management and climate action). He joined BC Transit in 2000 as a fleet engineer and has held a number of positions since, including Manager, Fleet Engineering and Director, Vehicle Asset Management. He has served on technical advisory committees for the Canadian Standards Association and was a transCDA Board member (a not-for-profit Industry Trade Organization). Aaron is also part of B.C.’s Industry Training Authority Transportation & Transit Sector Advisory Group. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Victoria and an MBA from Royal Roads University.
Aaron led the acquisition of the first production hybrid buses sold in Canada. He was part of a team in the case study and trial of automotive fuel cell electric vehicles. He was also the direct lead for the largest fuel cell transit fleet (the Whistler Fuel Cell Bus Demonstration Program).
Aaron resides in the beautiful Cowichan Valley (Vancouver Island). When not at work, he spends much of his time coaching children’s minor hockey and volunteering as a Board member for the local minor hockey association.
Ray Hoemsen, Executive Committee Member, Red River College,
Ray Hoemsen, M. Sc., FEC, P. Eng., has held numerous leadership positions in the public and private sectors, and as a volunteer in his community and profession. Since 1986, he has specialized in “The Business of Science™,” and is the former Director of the University of Manitoba’s Industry Liaison Office, as well as the Vice-President/Director of Operations for the University’s Smart Park Development Corporation. As President of NEXUS Manitoba, he has focused upon innovation, technology transfer and commercialization, incubators and research parks, and Canada’s SR&ED program. In 2004,Ray was appointed Director, Applied Research & Commercialization at Red River College, and has led the establishment and growth of its applied research enterprise. In 2007, Ray completed a 17-month half-time secondment as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s (NSERC’s) Visiting Executive/Manager of NSERC-Prairies. During his tenure at the College, a robust research enterprise has evolved, supported by local, national and international corporate and institutional partners. This has resulted in ~$25 million in capital investments for research infrastructure, annual research revenue of nearly $6 million, numerous Research Centres and Chairs, Canadian and international research partnerships, a consistent Top 10 Canadian Research College ranking, and the prestigious NSERC College Synergy Award for Innovation.
Nicole Arsenault, York University
Nicole Arsenault is Manager, Transportation Services (Campus Services & Business Operations) at York University, and has been since 2004. She is a graduate of York’s Environmental Studies program, as well as the Summer Institute in Sustainability Leadership at the University of British Columbia. Nicole has developed and implemented numerous sustainable transportation programs including campus shuttles, a mobility service for people with disabilities, car sharing, carpool priority parking and infrastructure for cycling and electric vehicles. Her work on expanding transit options has resulted in over 80% of the community opting to use sustainable modes of transportation to and from the university. Nicole is actively engaged in collaborative efforts to promote sustainability at York University. She is a member of the President's Sustainability Council and Chair of the Operations & Development Work Group. She has served as Senior Fellow at the Institute for Research & Innovation in Sustainability (2009-2015). Nicole has volunteered in various positions, including the Hospital for Sick Children (Bioethics) and is currently a Board of a Director for the following organizations: Smart Commute - North Toronto, Vaughan (Treasurer), Newpark Children Centre, and most recently the Windfall Ecology Centre. Nicole has received the Smart Commute Champion Award (2011) and York University President's Sustainability Award (2015). Nicole's tireless work in sustainable transportation management was a contributing factor to York University Smart Commuter Employer of the Year Award in both 2007 and 2012.
Ann-Marie Carroll, York Region Transit
Ann-Marie Carroll is the General Manager of York Region Transit, a Regional public transit provider of conventional (YRT), bus rapid transit (Viva) and paratransit services (Mobility Plus). Ms. Carroll has actively contributed to the operational and technical advancement, and growth of public transit through her various positions within the York Region organization since 2002.
Prior to working in the transit industry, Ann-Marie obtained an additional 15 years’ experience in the areas of planning, engineering and environmental services. Ann-Marie is a member of a number of committees and organizations, and has an education background in executive leadership, business, civil engineering and building environmental systems.
Sarah Buckle, Translink
As Director of Enterprise Risk and Sustainability, Sarah is responsible for ensuring enterprise risk and sustainability efforts enhance business performance and influence strategic planning at the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (TransLink). Sarah acts as a key liaison to the Board Finance and Audit Committee and TransLink’s Executive Team on risk and sustainability compliance. As Director, Sarah chairs the Sustainability Advisory Committee providing leadership and strategic direction on TransLink’s key sustainability initiatives, and sits on the Steering Committee tasked to develop TransLink’s low carbon fleet strategy. As part of this low carbon fleet initiative, TransLink is proud to participate in the Pan-Canadian Electric Bus Demonstration and Integration trial. Sarah’s leadership in sustainability contributed to TransLink being the first Canadian transit organization to achieve Platinum level status for sustainability from the American Public Transportation Association.
Richard Chahine, UQTR
Richard Chahine is the executive director of the Hydrogen Research Institute (HRI) of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and one of its founding (1994) members. He is holder of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in hydrogen purification, transport and storage (2002-2015) and professor at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 1992. Professor Chahine acted as the director of the NSERC Strategic Pan-Canadian Network (H2CAN) on production, purification, storage and infrastructure of hydrogen which he initiated in 2006.
Professor Chahine acted as a Canadian expert member of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Hydrogen Implementing Agreement (HIA) 1991-2014, and also for the International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy (IPHE) up to 2010. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for ISO-TC 197 on hydrogen technologies, and member of the Board of the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Association (CHFCA) since 2010. He was also a member of the Advisory Group on hydrogen technologies for Natural Resources Canada (1998-2010). He also takes part on many committees related to energy and hydrogen at the national and international level, and chaired the scientific committee of national and international hydrogen conferences.
Professor Chahine is author and co-author of more than 280 scientific publications, technical reports and conference proceedings; 4 patents and 2 books. He co-authored a top cited paper in Scripta Materiala 2007-2011. He was awarded the Prix d’excellence en recherche de l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières for his outstanding contribution in research (2009), and the IEA-HIA Project Prize 2010. He was admitted to the “Circle of Excellence of the Université du Québec” in 2012.
Cara Clairman, Plug'n Drive
Cara Clairman is President and CEO of Plug’n Drive, a non-profit that is accelerating the deployment of EVs to maximize their environmental and economic benefits. In just over three years, Cara has taken Plug’n Drive from an idea to a thriving non-profit, recognized as a leader in the EV space. Cara has more than 20 years of experience working in the environmental and sustainability fields, including 12 years working at Ontario Power Generation, initially as OPG’s environmental lawyer and later in the role Vice President of Sustainable Development. As VP of SD, she was responsible for oversight of OPG’s environmental performance and the development and implementation of OPG’s sustainable development policies and programs. Prior to joining OPG, Cara spent five years practicing environmental law with the Torys law firm. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall and a Masters in Environmental Studies from York University, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from Queen’s University. Cara is currently driving the 100% electric Nissan Leaf as her personal car and the 100% electric Mitsubishi i-Miev for business.
Barry Cole, Oakville Transit
Barry Cole is the Director of Oakville Transit, a mid-size municipal transit service provider in the Greater Toronto Area. In the ten years that Barry has held this position transit ridership in Oakville increased from 2.4 million annual rides to a 2014 high of just over 3 million. During this time Barry was responsible for numerous significant improvements to Oakville Transit’s infrastructure and service design including the construction of a new 265,000 sq. ft. LEADS Silver transit operation and maintenance facility; a new transit terminal in the town’s Uptown Core; conversion of its bus fleet to 100% accessible; and launch of a fully functional Intelligent Transportation System. In 2009, Barry led the redesign of Oakville Transit’s route network resulting in a hybrid radial/grid system that resulted in 32 consecutive months of ridership increase. This new service design was subsequently showcased in the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s 2012 “Transit Supportive Guidelines” as a best practice case study in Transit Network Design. Barry has more than 33 years of transit experience including 23 years at the Toronto Transit Commission. He holds a Certificate in Management and a Bachelor of Administrative Studies from York University.
Curran Crawford, University of Victoria
Dr. Curran Crawford is an Associate Professor at the University of Victoria where he works to develop sustainable energy systems, with a focus on electrification of transportation. He currently works on the Transportation Futures project, with research into E-buses, fleet electrification, heavy-duty vehicle alternative drivetrains, and E-bikes, including battery degradation modeling. In addition to drive cycle and drivetrain modeling, grid integration of electrified vehicles is a key topic, including development of stochastic, probabilistic and agent-based methods to inherently capture system operational and structural variability. From 2012-2016 he led a $1.7M NRCan EcoEnergy funded project related to plug-in vehicle and smart grid integration, bringing together social/economic surveyers and modelers at Simon Fraser University, charging station architects at the University of British Columbia and a demonstration site at the British Columbia Institute of Technology with detailed technoeconomic drivetrain and grid integration modeling as well as environmental psychology at UVic. From 2008-2013 he was co-faculty advisor for the UVic EcoCAR team which achieved numerous competition awards and is currently the Formula Hybrid SAE team faculty advisor.
Dr. Crawford holds a PhD from Cambridge University, a Master’s Degree from M.I.T. and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Victoria. He sat on the board of City Green Solutions 2008-2010, and is a program committee member for the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS), along with a number of technical standards and international working groups in sustainable energy.
Peter Crockett, County of Oxford
Peter Crockett, M.Eng. has developed a broad technical experience in: Transportation and Transit Planning and Engineering; Traffic Engineering; Development Review and Engineering; and Engineering and Construction.
Peter has been responsible for managing people, programs and resources with a variety of organizations since 1988 and at a senior level since 1997. He has been involved and/or led a variety of organizational management initiatives including: Strategic plan development and implementation; Stakeholder engagement; Program reviews; Cost effectiveness and efficiency assessments; Change management; Organizational change; Municipal amalgamation implementation; and Leadership development.
Peter is currently the Chief Administrative Officer at the County of Oxford. Prior to joining Oxford County, Peter held positions with the City of Edmonton, Mohawk College, the Region of Peel, the City of Hamilton, the Region of Halton, and the City of Toronto.
Michel Dumoulin, Conseil National de Recherches du Canada (CNRC-NRC)
Dr. Michel Dumoulin est présentement Gestionnaire principal, Automobile et transport de surface, au Conseil national de recherches du Canada (CNRC).
Il a oeuvré au CNRC pendant plus de 20 ans. Il a débuté à l’Institut des matériaux industriels du CNRC comme chercheur, chef du groupe de recherche sur les polymères, puis à titre de Directeur du programme Conception de matériaux de pointe. Durant les deux dernières années, Dr. Dumoulin a été Directeur exécutif responsable des activités de R&D du CNRC sur les biomatériaux industriels.
Il a une large expérience industrielle, en tant que scientifique de recherche chez DuPont Canada au centre de recherche de Kingston, Ontario, ainsi que chez Imperial Chemical Industry en Belgique, dans le centre de recherche principal de la division ICI Polyuréthannes, et à titre de Directeur R-D chez ADS Composites (Québec). Biographical note - Dr. Michel M. Dumoulin
Dr. Michel Dumoulin is currently General Manager, Automotive and Surface Transportation, at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC).
He has been with NRC for over 20 years, beginning at the Industrial Materials Institute, as a research scientist, research group leader and finally as Director, Advanced Materials Design, leading R&D activities in advanced polymers, composites, metals and ceramics as well as nanomaterials. For the last 2 years, he has acted as Executive Director, responsible for NRC’s R&D activities in industrial biomaterials.
He has extensive experience in the polymer materials industry, as a research scientist with DuPont Canada Research Centre in Kingston (Ontario, Canada), with Imperial Chemicals Industry in Brussels, Belgium, and finally as R&D Director of ADS Composites in Quebec City. He contributed to scientific affairs within the Quebec government, in 2009-2011, as Vice-president Science at the Fonds québécois de recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FQRNT).
He earned a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in chemistry at Université de Montréal, followed by a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal specializing in polymer rheology and processing. He has co-authored over 120 scientific publications and 6 patents.
Dr. Dumoulin has been involved in numerous professional activities and particularly at the executive level in the Canadian Society of Rheology and Society of Plastics Engineers. He has chaired or played instrumental roles in several leading conferences and symposia such as the 1996 International Congress of Rheology, the 2000 Polymer Processing Society’s International Meeting and the series of Nanomaterials Crossroads.
Justin Gammage, University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Dr. Justin Gammage is UOIT’s Industry Liaison Manager reporting to the VP Research, Innovation and International and is responsible for building partnerships with industry at UOIT and UOIT’s ACE Research facility. Prior to joining UOIT, Justin spent 12 years working in the auto industry, most recently as the Chief Scientist for General Motors of Canada where he was responsible for leading GM’s collaborative research activities across country. Prior to transitioning the role of Chief Scientist, Justin was the R & D Program Manager for General Motors of Canada and in addition to his program administration responsibilities, he supported the development of a large number of new collaborative research programs in areas that include lightweight materials, energy storage, vehicle control systems, manufacturing and vehicle electrification. Justin began his career at GM Canada in materials engineering where he worked in the product development organization based at GM’s Canadian Regional Engineering Center in Oshawa, Ontario. Justin holds a Ph.D. in Material Science from McMaster University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
Ersoy Gulecoglu, Metrolinx
Ersoy currently leads the Sustainability and Innovation teams at Metrolinx with a mandate to advance environmental, social and financial sustainability initiatives as well as mobility and culture of innovation within the organization and through our mandate in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area . Some of the key focus areas for Ersoy and his teams are development and implementation of a corporate sustainability strategy, energy management, climate adaptation and resilience, community responsibility, employee engagement, innovation, research, pilots and new technologies.
Ersoy is a professional engineer and holds an MBA degree from Georgia State University.
Norbert Haunerland, Simon Fraser University
Originally from Germany, Dr. Norbert Haunerland has been a long-term faculty member and senior administrator at Simon Fraser University (SFU) – Canada’s leading comprehensive university. As Associate Vice President, Research, he is responsible for developing and administering strategic research priorities at SFU. Current focal points include Big Data, health technology, clean energy and hydrogen fuel cells. Over the course of his tenure as Associate Vice-President, Research, SFU has made major investments in advancing research and commercialization in material science and mechatronics systems engineering, specifically in hydrogen fuel cell technology for applications to the automotive and public transportation industry.
Both locally and internationally, Dr. Haunerland acts as a facilitator for SFU’s innovation and knowledge mobilization activities – in the form of business acceleration and incubation, community-engaged research, and partnerships with industry. Together with the Mayor of Surrey, he currently serves as co-chair of Innovation Boulevard – an agile partnership of health, business, higher education, and government focused on hubs for health technology, cyber security, and clean tech to improve peoples’ lives. Dr. Haunerland has also been active in expanding SFU’s partnerships with institutions across Europe and Asia.
Andy Hrymak, University of Western Ontario
Andrew Hrymak (P.Eng, FCIC, FCAE, Ph. D. Chem. Eng., Carnegie Mellon University; B.Eng., Chem Eng., McMaster University) is Dean of Engineering and Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Western Ontario.
Previously, he served in the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University from 1985- 2009 where he was Professor and Department Chair (2000-2009), Director of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (2001-05), and Director of the Walter G. Booth School of Engineering Practice (2004-09). His research interests include modeling, design and optimization of materials processing systems, in particular mixing, polymer processing, liquid coating flows, and complex rheology.
He served as Editor of Computers and Chemical Engineering (2002-2010) and is currently Editor-in-Chief of International Polymer Processing (2004-). He served as the President of the International Society of Coating Science and Technology (ISCST) from 2012-14. He is currently the Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Project Centre for Composites Research at Western. He serves on the Fellowship Selection Committee and Board of Directors of the Chemical Institute of Canada.

Patrick Leclerc, Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA)
Patrick Leclerc is the President and CEO of the Canadian Urban Transit Association. Over the last few years, Patrick has led the transit industry’s efforts to raise the profile of public transit with the federal government and key stakeholders and decision makers across the country. With over 15 years of experience in the areas of government relations, public affairs and communications, Patrick has worked in various industries and not-for-profit in Canada and overseas.
Janice Mady, Queen's University
Janice Mady is the Director of Industry Partnerships & Innovation Park at Queen’s University.
Janice and her Business Development team build relationships with industry and facilitate pathways for companies to access resources and talent at Queen’s to advance growth and commercialization objectives. She also leads the Research Contracts team which negotiates agreements on behalf of the University to facilitate local, national and international research collaborations with industry, government, not-for-profits and other institutions.
Janice has championed Innovation Park at Queen’s University since its startup in 2008. The Park is a growing physical hub for dynamic interfaces between the University, industry, governments, startups and entrepreneurs. Janice leads the Innovation Park team as well as InnovationXL, a suite of incubation and acceleration programs that are part of a collaboration to strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem.
Previously at Queen’s, Janice was Director of Operations for the $50 million BIOCAP Canada Foundation, a not-for-profit organization focused on research for solutions to climate change.Prior to joining Queen’s in 2005, Janice enjoyed a 17 year career with Procter and Gamble in a variety of roles with Canadian, North American and global responsibilities.
Janice sits on the board of directors for GreenCentre Canada and for Launch Lab, a regional innovation centre that is part of the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs. Janice is a past director of the Association of University Research Parks in Canada, the Kingston Technology Exchange Centre and the Kingston Technology Council.
Jennifer McNeill, New Flyer
Jennifer McNeill joined New Flyer in 2012 and is responsible for the Contract and Bids Management team, plus the design and delivery of strategic sales support, marketing and related business development programs. She also provides direction for strategic business intelligence activities.
Prior to joining New Flyer, Jennifer held senior management and executive positions in engineering, quality, sales and business strategy and most recently was the Vice President Sales, Marketing and Business Development at Standard Aero. Jennifer is a graduate from the University of Manitoba where she obtained both her Mechanical Engineering degree and an MBA. Jennifer is a Professional Engineer.
Audra McKinley, Durham Region Transit
Audra started in the transit industry in 2004 in Grande Prairie, Alberta as a Customer Service representative for Transit and Fleet Maintenance. The fleet consisted of 20 buses with contracted driver operations. During the seven years that Audra was with Grande Prairie Transit, she advanced to Transit Coordinator. Achievements during this time included project management for a long term Transit Master Plan, updating the fleet to 100% accessibility and identifying a downtown transfer terminal.
In 2012, Audra moved on to become the Transit Manager for the City of Lethbridge. With a fleet of 43 conventional buses, 21 para-transit buses and 44 yellow school buses, Audra was successful in returning fleet maintenance to the Transit department and implementing a warranty tracking system.
Now with Durham Region Transit since mid-2015, Audra is Deputy General Manager, Maintenance. DRT has 3 garage locations, BRT and currently they are building a new maintenance facility in the Oshawa location.
Walter Mérida, University of British Columbia
Dr. Mérida has worked on clean energy solutions for more than twenty years. He was born in Guatemala and he completed his higher education in Italy and Canada (Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering). His graduate research focused on natural gas liquefaction, hydrogen infrastructure, and fuel cell technology.
While at the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (1996-1999), he managed projects between Ballard Power Systems, British Gas Investments Canada, UVic, and Simon Fraser University. He served on the Board for General Hydrogen Corporation prior to private financing, and he joined the Faculty of Applied Science at UBC in 2002. He was a visiting professor at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (2010), and he was co-appointed at the National Research Council from 2002 to 2011.
Dr. Mérida has co-authored more than 100 journal and conference publications, and eight patents in clean energy technology. He leads the Transportation Futures Group supported by the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions and UBC. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium, the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, and the Institute for Breakthrough Energy Technologies. He is currently the director of UBC’s Clean Energy Research Centre.
Eric Miller, University of Toronto
Professor Eric J. Miller has BASc and MASc degrees from the University of Toronto and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He been a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Toronto since 1983, where he is currently Director of the University of Toronto Transportation Research Institute. He served as Acting Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering during 1998-99, 2003 and 2007 and was the inaugural Director of the University of Toronto Cities Centre (2008-2012). He is also Director of the University’s Data Management Group, which is responsible for the largest travel survey data collection and management program in Canada, and the Travel Modelling Group, which works closely with transportation agencies in the Toronto region in improving the operational state of travel demand modelling practice in the region. He is past-Chair of the U.S. Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Travel Behavior and Values, the International Association for Travel Behaviour Research and the TRB Sub-Committee on Integrated Transportation – Land Use Modeling. He is a Member Emeritus of the TRB Transportation Demand Forecasting Committee. He served on the TRB Task Force on Moving Activity-Based Approaches to Practice and the US National Academy of Sciences Committee for Determination of the State of the Practice in Metropolitan Area Travel Forecasting. He has chaired or been a member of numerous intercity travel demand modelling peer review panels throughout North America, including current membership on the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s Ridership Technical Advisory Panel. Professor Miller is the recipient of the 2009 Wilbur S. Smith Distinguished Educator Award from the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the inaugural winner of the University of British Columbia Margolese National Design for Living Award (2012). Professor Miller is the developer of GTAModel, a state-of-the-art activity-based microsimulation regional travel demand modeling system used by the Cities of Toronto and Mississauga to forecast travel demand in the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area (GTHA) and ILUTE, an integrated land use – travel demand model system for the GTHA. He also was His international experience includes transit planning in Cairo and travel demand model development in Mumbai and Hyderabad. He is co-author of the textbook Urban Transportation Planning: A Decision-Oriented Approach, the third edition of which was recently released in e-book format.
Kelly Paleczny, London Transit Commission
Kelly Paleczny joined the London Transit Commission in 1997 as the Manager of Information Technology, after a lengthy consulting career at Price Waterhouse. Kelly was promoted to Director of IT and Specialized Services in 1999, then to Director of Finance and Administration in 2001 and most recently appointed as General Manager, effective January 1, 2015. Over her tenure at LTC, Kelly has remained an engaged member of CUTA as well as has participated on the Board of the Ontario Public Transit Association, serving several years on the executive in the roles of Treasurer, Vice Chair, and Chair.
Kelly worked on behalf of the transit industry on the development of AODA standards from 2005 - 2012, serving as a member of the Transportation Standards Development Committee, and is currently chairing the Transportation Standards Development Committee charged with review the transportation standards. She also participated in the development of the Information and Communication standards through chairing the AMO working group, and continues as a member of the Association for Municipalities of Ontario AODA Steering Committee.
Trevor Pitcher, University of Windsor
Dr. Trevor Pitcher is currently an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and Director, Research and Innovation at the University of Windsor. In his capacity as Director, Research and Innovation, Dr. Pitcher oversees the activities of the University of Windsor’s Office of Research and Innovation Services, providing leadership and direction with respect to the implementation and promotion of the University’s strategic research mandate.
Specializing in evolutionary and behavioural ecology, Dr. Pitcher’s research interests span genetic quality, evolutionary biology, and reproductive ecology of salmonids, and conservation fish breeding, aquaculture of salmon, and fish aquatic contaminant stress, and restoration ecology. As the Founding Director of the University of Windsor’s Freshwater Restoration Ecology Centre in LaSalle, Ontario, Dr. Pitcher is currently engaged in scientific research aimed at restoring species of fish in the Great Lakes to self-sustaining population levels. He is a frequent invited conference speaker and has published more than 80 scientific papers on these topics.
Dr. Pitcher has received many awards and honours for his success as both a research and a top educator including the prestigious NSERC Synergy Award, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation Early Research Award, as well as several University of Windsor Research and Teaching Excellence Awards. To date, he has supervised more than 40 graduate and undergraduate students.
Dr. Pitcher is actively involved in committee and board work. He has served on the editorial boards of Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Genetica, Animal Behavior, and Frontiers in Ecology scientific journals. Dr. Pitcher is also frequently called upon as review committee member for various granting agencies, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Australian Research Council. He has served as Chair of the Animal Care Committee for the Animal Behavior Society (North America) and on the University of Windsor’s Animal Care Committee. At the University of Windsor, Dr. Pitcher has also served as a member of Senate, the Strategic Research Planning Committee, the Environmental Forum Committee, and the Pelee Environmental Research Centre Working Group.
Dr. Pitchers holds a PhD in Zoology from the University of Toronto and a BSc and MSc in Biology from York University.
Michael Roschlau, Grande West Transportation International
Recently retired from the position of President & CEO of the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA), Michael has devoted his career to promoting efficient and effective public transit. During his 29 years at CUTA, he became known as a strong advocate for public transit, initiating a highly successful government relations profile. He was instrumental in creating Transit Vision 2040, a generational vision which has become a national blueprint for transit development. Michael championed a paradigm shift at CUTA, broadening the scope of traditional public transit to embrace integrated urban mobility and new technology. He also pioneered a comprehensive training and professional development curriculum, elements of which have been adopted by public transit agencies worldwide.
While Michael was CEO of CUTA, membership grew from 356 to 510, CUTA revenue rose from $1.5 million to $4.1 million, and government investment in Canadian public transit increased from $676 million to $4.3 billion annually. Dozens of municipal councils and corporate boards passed resolutions adopting Transit Vision 2040 as their guiding document for transit development, and public transit rose to become a high priority for the federal government as well as provinces and municipalities across Canada.
Since his retirement from CUTA in 2015, Michael has acted as strategic adviser to numerous transport companies and agencies. He holds a PhD in transport geography from the Australian National University, as well as a Master of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto.
Dave Sherlock, St. Catharine's Transit
Dave Sherlock was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, obtained a B.A. in Economics from McMaster University and an M.B.A. at York University. He has 23 years experience in the railway industry, both freight and passenger in various departments, and has spent the past 12 years in the public transit industry as General Manager, St. Catharines Transit. He has worked out of downtown Toronto, Hamilton and the Niagara Region. He has served on the Board of Directors of the following organizations:

· United Way of St. Catharines and District
Daniel Simounet, ABB
Daniel Simounet has been the Director of the Transportation Market Segment for North America since 2011. In this role, he leads the industry sector initiative across all ABB divisions which are active in the Rail and Transportation industry in North America. Before joining ABB, Daniel acquired more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry. He has held various roles in product design, product management, strategic marketing and business development with several companies including Wabtec and Honeywell.
Daniel is a recognized specialist in strategic marketing and product development. His technical background, coupled with a strong customer-oriented approach and a comprehensive understanding of the market has enabled him to deliver innovative solutions to his customers.
Daniel is involved in the industry as an active member of all major transportation associations in North America.
Daniel holds an advanced technical diploma in electrical engineering from the School of Gustave Eiffel in Bordeaux, France, and an Executive MBA from the University of Québec in Montreal. Daniel holds citizenship in France and Canada.

Emmanuelle Toussaint started in 2013 as Corporate Legal Counsel and as such was part of the Prevost and Nova Bus Management Teams. She worked for Volvo Bus Corporation in Sweden in 2015 before to be appointed Vice-President Legal of Prevost and Nova Bus. Emmanuelle has taken the additional responsibility of Public Affairs, including communication and regulatory affairs, in March 2016. She is an officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Volvo Group Canada Inc. and of Prevost Car (US) Inc.
Emmanuelle has 20 years of experience in legal affairs and has extensive experience in management and administration. Prior to joining Volvo, she has been one of the Directors in the legal department of the City of Quebec and worked previously in different companies in the medical, aerospace, software and university fields, where she hold a variety of legal, regulatory affairs and sales operations roles.
She is a member of the Quebec Bar Association and holds a bachelor degree in law and a certificate in administration from Université Laval.
Michael Ledgett, Dentons Canada LLP
Michael F Ledgett is a partner of Dentons Canada LLP and has practiced law in Ontario for over forty years. He centres his practice on corporate and commercial law, including corporate governance and private company M&A. He is Co-Chair of Denton Canada’s Infrastructure & P3 Group and Denton Canada’s Transportation Group. He is also Honorary Counsel to the Ontario Public Transit Association, a director and Chair of the Governance Committee of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, and a former director and Chair of the Ontario Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Darryl is the Chair for the School of Engineering Technologies at St. Clair College of Applied Arts and Technology (“St. Clair College”) and is responsible for the management of all operations, faculty, curriculum and students in the school’s 11 diploma and advanced diploma programs, reporting directly to the Vice President Academic and serving in this role for 2 years. Additionally, Darryl acts as the lead administrator for Mathematics & Physics which services all program across the institute. Within these programs, Darryl leads a multi-disciplinary group of 50 full time professors, 30-40 part time instructors, and 5 support staff, and manages scheduling, payroll and budgeting, hiring and contracting, and human resource related items. Darryl manages a department budget of over $7.0 million dollars, including budget and capital planning, resource planning and staffing, and all approvals and reporting.
